‘A Very Brady Christmas’ (1988): A bizarre, weird, & miscalculated holiday treat

I read a piece the other day saying Gen X pop culture (mine) is totally worthless and is disappearing way faster than stuff produced during the Boomer years (translation: I needed an opening for this review, so I’m lying as usual). So…is the most repeated sitcom of my Gen X childhood, The Brady Bunch, still in syndication (I could look it up, but my hand is unsteady with drink)?

‘The Donny & Marie 1978 Christmas Show’ (1978): Episode of duo’s variety show is fine for family viewing

Do they still do celebrity Christmas specials on TV? I ask because…who watches terrestrial network TV anymore? I know I don’t. Perhaps more to the point: do we even have the kind of celebrities nowadays that could pull off one, or have ones we’d care to spend a holiday evening with in our homes?

‘Christmas in the Rockies’ (2020): Romance, lumberjack games, & WWE chicks for the win

Flying hatchets. Running with chainsaws.

These people will do anything for $50,000. But in this economy, who can blame them?

‘Happy Holidays with Bing and Frank’ (1957): A drunken Christmas from The Frank Sinatra Show, pally!

Merry Christmas, everyone! We had such a nice reaction to our review of the Perry Como Christmas Special co-starring The Carpenters (in short: when I showed it to a bum on the bus, he threw up on my shoes and then tried to shank me), we decided here at the Drunk TV HQ to trim the tree, so to speak, with another holiday TV special review. This time, we’re going to dig out the classic December 20th, 1957 Christmas episode of ABC’s disastrous The Frank Sinatra Show, featuring special guest star, the old Groaner himself, Der Bingle! Entitled Happy Holidays with Bing and Frank, The Chairman of the Board and Bingo from Bingville trade quips and carols while getting thoroughly soused. It’s a Christmas must for fans of vintage Yuletide television specials.

‘Christmas on the Coast’ (2018): Love, romance and going home

‘A Christmas Story’ (1972): Hanna-Barbera special is a sweet, nostalgic time capsule

Hey, listen, readers: if we have to change our name from DrunkTV to All Hanna-Barbera! All the Time!, we will, particularly with the insane number of hits we’ve been clocking lately off that brand.

‘Yogi’s First Christmas’ (1980): A smarter-than-the-average holiday special

Last week, in a rather desperate bid to fend off my irate editor (his is a simple process:  no review from me…no booze for me), I fobbed off a quick look at 1982’s Hanna-Barbera animated holiday TV special, Yogi Bear’s All Star Comedy Christmas Caper.  Well, imagine our collective shock when 100s and 100s of readers clicked on it.  A veritable bonanza of eyeballs!  So…in an unashamedly naked, crass attempt to repeat that fluke, we’re offering up even more Jellystone Christmas cheer, this time with 1980’s syndicated romp, Yogi’s First Christmas!

‘The Year Without a Santa Claus’ (2006): Nominee for worst-ever Christmas movie

During this Christmas season, if you want your child to believe that the world is coming to an end from greed and indifference, and for him or her (or god forbid “ze” or “hir”) to think that Santa is an aggressive, violent, psychotic rageaholic with possible suicidal tendencies…then by all means, give them the gift of love and put 2006’s made-for-cable movie The Year Without a Santa Claus under the tree: certainly in the running for the worst Christmas movie ever made.
