I just watched a batch of episodes from the first live action attempt of The Tick, which aired on FOX in 2001. Now, Amazon is looking to best that failed effort.
Creator Ben Edlund, who was also behind the 2001 show, is back for this one, which is exclusive to Amazon Prime customers. (Can we still consider this “television”?)
The Tick still exhibits much of the same offbeat humor fans will recall from the earlier show.
As you can see, this Tick is decidedly higher budget, the first thing I noticed having immediately viewed it after watching those earlier 2001 shows.
The action is ramped up, with bigger spills and spectacular action, likely due to the direction by Wally Pfister, a longtime cinematographer for Christopher Nolan.
Peter Serafinowicz (Look Around You, Guardians of the Galaxy) stars with Griffin Newman as sidekick Arthur.
The Tick streams on Amazon Prime on Friday, August 25, 2017.
