‘What Would Diplo Do?’ What James Van Der Beek is doing

Today’s electronic dance music (EDM) deejays; you either love ’em or think they’re total douche bags.

But since I’m a DJ myself, I’m more than curious to check out What Would Diplo Do?, the first scripted series from Vice’s Viceland cable network.

And if you spent any of your teen years or early twenties watching TV in the late ’90s, you’ll be curious to check out modern day James Van Der Beek of Dawson’s Creek in the role of real-life super DJ Diplo.

The trailer plays like comedy, and is listed as such in online directories. It reminds me of shows like Entourage and Ballers, complete with immature, super-rich characters surrounded by trappings of success and celebrating true “bro” culture.

So what am I saying? If you liked Entourage or Ballers, there may be something for you here. And if you’re a Diplo fan, you’ll definitely want to check it out, even though producers say it’s a fictionalized version of his life.

What Would Diplo Do? premieres August 3, 2017 on Viceland at 10 p.m.
